CQ News June 16, 2023

Hi quilting friends,

Our next meeting day will be on Monday, June 19, 2023. We will meet in our regular space at KMVT from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you.

Our tying days started off a bit slowly, but built to a grand finish. We managed to tie 40 quilts in two days including all of our larger queen and full-sized quilts. There have been requests for the larger sizes, so we will be able to satisfy some of those in our next delivery.

We always need quilts for kids of all sizes. Infants and laps are appreciated.

Because we had such a successful tying event, we have many quilts that need to be bound. If you can help, please pick one up on the table by the door in the bind-me box. Add a folded label within ten inches of a corner.

We are always looking for folks who can longarm quilts for us. If you know of someone who can volunteer, please let us know.

CQ is participating in a quilt display being held during June at the Twin Falls County Museum on Highway 30 in the old Union School. We have several quilts on display, and there are quilts from some of our individual members as well.

We will be meeting in our workroom at KMVT on the following dates (first Wednesday and third Monday):

Monday, June 19, 2023.

Hi quilting friends,

Our next meeting day will be Wednesday, August 2, 2023. We will meet in our regular space at KMVT from 10:00 AM until 3:30 PM. Notice that we are shortening our day. We have found that folks have lots of things to do in the summer and are not using the later time. We will see how this works out for all of us. Let us know if this time creates a problem for you.

Our kit makers have been busy creating new kits for you to complete. We had so many beautiful fabrics that it was easy to be inspired to combine them in our new kits.

We still have lots of quilts to bind if you can help out in that area. There are all sizes of quilts, so you can find one just the right size for you.

We are planning to have a distribution day in August. We are accumulating a nice supply of completed quilts to share with those who need them.

There is a bolt of apron fabric that is printed into the shapes needed to make the apron; or, the shapes can be recut into original shapes to make a quilt top. Ideas???
We will be meeting in our workroom at KMVT on the following dates (first Wednesday and third Monday). Our times are changed to 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Days are:

Monday, July 17, 2023
Wednesday, August 2, 2023
Monday, August 21, 2023.

Community Quilts will be having a demonstration day at the TF County Fair on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

Hi quilting friends,

Our next meeting day will be Monday, July 17, 2023. We will meet in our regular space at KMVT from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Be sure to come to chat and quilt. Frames will be up to tie. Join us and go through all our gorgeous colors of fabric to make a beautiful quilt top. There is a box of kits with fabrics all cut and patterns included for you to choose from, too.

We appreciate all the folks who sorted through Bea Kilbourne’s collection of quilt boxes with fabric. We still have many collections that are available for you to look through. Many boxes don’t have patterns, just lovely fabrics in pleasing colors.

We have smaller quilts that we are asking those of you who can machine quilt to look through to see if there are some you could quilt for us. If you can help, please let us know.

Jane Anderson, of the TF County Museum, asked us to consider providing a collection of quilts for them to display at this same time next year. We thought it was nice that they were pleased with the response they received from the public.

Binders alert: we need your help!

Hi quilting friends,

Our next meeting day will be Monday, August 21, 2023. We will meet in our regular space at KMVT from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The shortened day is so we can set up for distribution on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. If you would like to help us set up tables, we welcome your help for a short while.

We have received a lot of fabric suitable for making laundry bags. We would like to have them made so we can deliver at the end of the year.

We are short on children’s pillowcases. Geraldine has created kits if you could help us with that project. We always need male types of pillowcases as well.

We still have lots of quilts to bind if you can help out in that area. There are all sizes of quilts, so you can find one just the right size for you.

We have a tub full of lovely special quilts that can be used if an organization needs a raffle-type quilt. if you know of such a cause, please let us know. We will be donating a quilt to the casino night for veterans to use their special needs.

Hi quilting friends,

Our next meeting days will be on Wednesday, June 7, and Thursday, June 8, 2023. We have scheduled the big KMVT Community Room for tying. We will be meeting for our usual hours from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Please let your friends who like to tie know that we invite them to come and tie with us.

Lunch for these two days will be as follows:
Wednesday is BYOL (bring your own lunch).
Thursday CQ will provide croissant sandwiches from Costco, plates, napkins, and water. We will have a sharing table for folks to bring along something that will make our lunches special.

We have received some thank-you notes from two agencies who received quilts from us during our recent distribution days. Health and Welfare Children and Family Services all signed a note to us thanking us for our “awesome quilts.” The CSI Refugee Center wrote, “Thank you so much for your beautiful quilts. They mean so much to our newly arrived refugees.”

Hi quilting friends,

We will meet on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. Plan to come any time between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM at KMVT in our workroom. We will be tying quilts as we always do, as well as all our other jobs to make more quilts.

As we work to resupply our stock of finished quilts, we have taken the needs of those we give quilts to into consideration. A few of the agencies have need for larger quilts such as the full and queen, not king sized. We don’t need a lot of those sizes, but a few more would be nice.

When we received the generous donation of Bill and Sherri Lowe’s fabric, we also received a stock of quilt templates for cutting blocks. We have put these into a box for you to look through and choose some you would like to borrow for making quilts for us, or making some for yourself. We are happy to be able to share these templates, many of which have come from Missouri Star Quilt Company. We ask that you return them when you finish in order to continue to make them available for everyone.

There is a mighty collection of fat quarters you may like to look through. Carolyn has reorganized the pattern drawer, so the patterns for fat quarters are easier to find, too. If you enjoy working with precuts, we have a lots of those as well.

We will be meeting in our workroom at KMVT on the following dates (first Wednesday and third Monday):

Wednesday, May 3, 2023
Monday, May 15, 2023

Hi quilting friends,

We will meet on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Plan to come any time between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM at KMVT in our workroom. We will be doing our usual work and sorting for our April Distribution Day. Please bring any completed items this Wednesday, so we can include them in our giving.

Several of us traveled to Wendell to pick up another large donation of fabric from Sherrie Loe’s beautiful fabric. She was a dedicated Community Quilter who loved to give. We will enjoy making quilts from her fabric with her in our thoughts. We thank her generous husband, Bill, for making this donation possible.

If you want to make a quilt for us, consider making an infant quilt. They are small: approximately 40 to 45 inches square. We always need them.

Another idea is to pick up a quilt kit. We have moved the shelves for kits into the first area you step into as you come through our door. There are several different patterns and fabrics used in these kits. You could find one that is just right for you to put together. Take a look!

Hi quilting friends,

We will meet on Monday, March 20, 2023. Plan to come any time between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM at KMVT in our workroom.

Drop by and see how we have reorganized our workspaces. We bought some new shelving. We remember when we were first given our space at KMVT. We had a designated space of four feet out from the east wall. That was it! Phyllis said we would work our way into more space, and she was right.

We have received an anonymous donation of flannel, batting, and several baby panels. Combined with our large selection of children’s fabrics, there is a quilt somewhere that needs your imagination to be created.

We want to thank Judy Snider for completing several embroidery projects that were donated to Community Quilts. We appreciate everyone who lends their expertise to us in order to make donated projects come alive.

We want to give a huge thank you to William C. Watt of Gem State Welding Supply for a very generous financial donation. We appreciate the help our community extends to us to do our charitable work.

We have some new subscribers, so we will include this size chart for their benefit. We appreciate your help in using these sizes.
CQ Quilt Size Recommendations
Infant 42-45 by 42-45
Youth 42-45 by 54-60 crib, toddlers to teens in this category
Lap 45-54 by 54-60
Bunk 60-64 by 80-84
Twin 64-70 by 82-85
